Washburn is an American guitar and bass guitar manufacturer based in Chicago. Washburn guitars have been made since the 1880s, but those guitars are not the same as modern Washburn bass guitars. The modern Washburn company has been making guitars since 1964.
They are the first guitar company to start endorsements by famous musicians. Endorsement contracts provide a signature series model that is promoted and often used by the famous musician in return for payment and/or free custom made equipment. The Washburn brand has been propelled by these endorsements from famous musicians like Dimebag Darrel.
Bootsy Collins, a famous American fun bassist known for his work with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, endorses a Bootsy Collins Space Bass signature series model that features Fender Jazz Bass pickups.
Modern Washburn bass guitars feature a wide variety of instruments ranging from those with wild body designs to stylish acoustic-electric basses. The AB40VSK acoustic-electric bass guitar is a very nice model with a slim body and an easy to play neck.
There are also a number of budget bass guitars available from Washburn, like the Taurus Series. Even though a budget bass guitar is generally made with cheaper parts and electronics, Washburn’s budget basses have received very nice reviews from both beginner musicians and experienced bassists. If you are looking to buy a budget bass for your first bass guitar and want to find one that still offers a quality produce with a nice sound, a Washburn may be your best choice.
The body design of this brand makes it a prime target for experienced bassists that are looking to create their own bass starting with a budget bass guitar. You may actually find that many parts on these guitars will not actually need to be replaced with high-end parts because they are already constructed with quality and produce very nice tones.
